A special meeting will take place between the Miami tribe of Oclahoma and the mayor of Gary, Indiana- Scott King. They will talk about the possible claim of the land from Indiana, in order to build a new land-based casino. The mayor has received a letter which suggests that Miami is ready to fight in court to get 3.8- million acre site in Indiana. Nevertheless, Miami hopes to become partners with Gary instead of fighting. It would be better, if both sides could derive profits from the agreement. Mayor King said,” To me it’s clear they’re going to pursue the land claim. We should at least explore the opportunity here for mutual nenefit.” Taking into consideration the pure condition of U.S steel industry, such an offer may bring great advantages to Gary’s economy. It is true, that Miami tribe has neither an established sovereign land to begin with, nor sovereign land in Indiana to build casinos. However, in case of agreement on buying the land in Gary, the Department of the Interior or Congress would have to grant the Miami Tribe sovereign rights over the demanded site.
